6 Foods That Help With Dry Scalp

Though it’s no secret that one of the best ways to keep your scalp in good health is to keep your hair moisturized, if you suffer from dry scalp, you know that packing on the moisture doesn’t always solve your problem. While changing up things in your life’s routine — like cutting out stress and keeping your scalp clean — can obviously help with alleviating your dry scalp issues, there are also a number of foods to consider including in your diet that can help, too. And while there are plenty of foods that fit the bill, here are six to start with that you may not have known to be beneficial.

Dairy

Though dairy is often frowned upon for a number of reasons, if you’re looking to relieve your dry scalp, you may want to consider incorporating it into your diet a bit more. Dairy products, which are rich in niacin—or as it’s more commonly known B3 vitamins—can help the body convert food and fuel into energy. This vitamin can also produce a healthier liver, hair, skin, and better vision, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Tofu

Tofu may not be your favorite food of the lot, but for those of you trying to get rid of your dry scalp problem, it may be a good food to consume moving forward. Tofu (along with leafy greens, nuts, and beans) is rich in iron, which helps transport oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. And for your scalp to be at its best, you’ll need the right amount of oxygen and nutrients to be available and carried throughout the body by your blood. Eating more food rich in iron can help do that.

Eggs

Love eating eggs for every meal? Keep at it, then! Full of protein and essential nutrients, eggs are rich in both Vitamin B and biotin. The latter of the two, however, helps to keep your hair shiny, moisturized, and luxurious. And who wouldn’t want that? Most importantly, eggs are extremely affordable and easy to find.

Carrots

Carrots may be known for improving your vision, but it’s also great for helping the health of your hair along, too. Filled with Vitamin A—which helps form sebum oil in the scalp—regular consumption of carrots can help keep the scalp and hair well moisturized.

Bacon

Though most probably won’t believe you when you tell them this, consuming bacon — in moderation, of course — can actually help with relieving your dry scalp issues. Loaded with Vitamin B, zinc, and protein, this often frowned upon food item actually hosts a number of healthy hair nutrients.

Green Tea

It’s no secret that green tea has a number of health benefits, but did you know it can also help with alleviating your dry scalp, too? Instead of drinking it though, you can wash your hair with green tea or apply it to your scalp to help kill dandruff. The caffeine found in the timeless drink can penetrate the hair follicles and encourage hair growth, treat hair loss, nourish your scalp, and protect it from bacteria, fungus, and sun damage. To apply to your scalp, just brew a strong batch using two tea bags and two cups of boiling water. After it cools down, place it in a spray bottle, and add it to your scalp after washing and/or conditioning (our Grapeseed Collection will be perfect for this!). Massage throughout your hair and let sit for up to 30 minutes. Rinse with cool water and style as usual.
