Aloe and Mint Article Image

Whether you’re sporting a head full of natural hair, transitioning from relaxed, or are still just trying to figure out which way to go, one thing that we’ve all probably heard by now is how “good” mint can be for your hair. But just because we’ve heard it, that doesn’t mean we actually know why. Since we’re all about supplying our curl crew with the education needed to have a mane of healthy locks, we decided to let you in on why mint was such a necessary addition to our new Aloe & Mint Collection. Here are a few good reasons why you should be using mint in your routine.

It can help fight acne.

Suffering from constant breakouts or just get a pimple every now and again? Mint can help with that! Mint contains both salicylic acid and Vitamin A, which control the secretions of sebum oil that the skin possesses. And since mint is overflowing with anti-bacterial and antifungal properties, it can help cure acne and prevent overall inflammation.

Mint can help alleviate dry scalp.

If you’re a person that suffers from dry, itchy scalp, you may want to consider washing with a mint-inclusive shampoo. As mentioned above, mint has a high amount of anti-bacterial and antifungal properties along with being one of the highest sources of carotene and antioxidants. All of these combined can help relieve dandruff. Our new Lather Up Stimulating Shampoo Creme will be great for that.

It helps in treating head lice.

Mint doesn’t just smell good for nothin’! Though most people love the refreshing and invigorating smell of mint, the strong smell that it yields can actually suffocate lice. If you happen to have an unfortunate encounter with the unruly bugs, just apply a bit of peppermint oil to your hair before bed and wash your hair the next day.

Mint can soothe tension headaches.

Did you know that mint can actually help relieve your tension headaches? Whether you’ve worn your hair tied too tight or are just having a rough day, massaging mint oil into your hair can significantly reduce the pain you’re feeling. Don’t have any oil handy? Our Wake Up Refresher Spray will work great, too.

It will stimulate hair growth.

Last, but certainly not least, mint can actually help to encourage hair growth as it stimulates blood circulation to the skin. It’s important to note though that while it can cause your blood vessels to widen and get the hair follicles going, if you have dry scalp or brittle hair, you should limit your use of the mint oil directly. Instead, try using mint-inclusive products like our Hydrate Me! Leave-In Conditioning Creme or the Cool It! Stimulating Moisturizing Conditioner.
