9 Herbs and Oils that Promote Hair Growth

If you’ve recently realized that your hair is having a bit of trouble getting to your ideal length, you’ve probably scoured the web looking for ways to improve your growth. Although there are many natural remedies to help your hair to grow, it may be difficult to sort through and try all of the ones available. So, to make things easier, here are nine of our favorite herbs and oils that will help you achieve your desired length.

Aloe Vera

Fresh aloe plant has long been known for its healing properties, but it is also good to remember that it promotes hair growth, too. The plant has a high water content level, is filled with vitamins and minerals, and has a similar pH level to your actual hair. Additionally, it can aid in soothing dry and irritated scalp. If you’re looking for aloe inclusive products, try using any of the ones from our new Grapeseed Collection.

Rosemary

Whether you’re using it by itself or mixed with castor oil, rosemary has been said to counter hair loss over the years. The herb is high in nutritional value and anti-inflammatory properties, which can stimulate blood circulation in the scalp.

Sweet Almond Oil

Much like rosemary, sweet almond oil improves circulation in the scalp, but it also does a number of other things, too. Rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin E, magnesium, and phospholipids, almond oil has the ability to nourish and strengthen hair to make it less prone to split ends and breakage. Our Frizz Rebel — Coconut & Sweet Almond oil is perfect to include in your routine to achieve your sweet almond oil needs.

Jojoba Oil

Though it’s quite oily, jojoba oil is great to use as a moisturizer for your hair. Its properties also help to protect your hair against dryness, breakage, and split ends and can be a remedy to dandruff. It is rich in minerals and vitamins like Vitamin C, B vitamins, Vitamin E, copper, and zinc. It also has the ability to strengthen hair. Both our Frizz Patrol Anti-Poof Twist & Curl Setting Mousse and Power Wash Intense Moisture Clarifying Shampoo from the Grapeseed Collection contain this beneficial oil.

Coconut Oil

If you’ve noticed that the natural hair community loves coconut oil, there’s a reason why. Equipped with lauric acid, coconut oil can help your hair take in the protein needed for your roots to grow. Additionally, it includes bacteria and fungus-fighting properties as well as fatty acids — which are great for conditioning — that will improve the health of your hair. Our Coconut Créme line is a great source for filling that coconut oil void.

Ginseng

An age old remedy for a host of conditions, ginseng is also said to be beneficial for the growth of hair follicles. The herb stimulates the scalp and has been known to reduce stress when ingested — which can prevent or slow the process of hair loss. To add ginseng into your hair routine, pick up our Soft All Over Multi-Purpose Oil.

Walnut Oil

Though it’s not talked about much for usage on hair, walnut oil is actually quite beneficial for hair growth. Filled with potassium, omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9 fatty acids, which all strengthen hair follicles, walnut oil can help in accelerating the hair growth process.

Grapeseed Oil

Cheaper than most oils, grapeseed oil is lightweight and works great at keeping your hair at its best health. It is rich in fatty acids and antioxidants and is known for providing long-lasting moisture, conditioning, and intense shine and reducing hair loss. Check out our Grapeseed Collection and the Balance — Grapeseed & Avocado oil for your grapeseed oil needs.

Ginkgo Biloba

The herb may be known for being added into food and drinks to increase your energy, improve your mood, and sharpen your focus, but it’s also good for helping your hair grow. Ginkgo biloba improves blood flow and circulation and just like many of the herbs and oils listed above, that can stimulate hair growth.
